Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP) at Harvard

A great fit for Greater Boston high school students (grades 9–12), especially those who face roadblocks entering science or medicine, who want exposure to health and science careers through a Harvard Medical School enrichment program.

• High school students in grades 9–12
• Attend schools in the greater Boston area
• Able to commit to attending all program sessions
• Previous HPREP participants are ineligible; students rejected in prior years may reapply

• Labs, presentations, and workshops led by faculty and students about scientific and medical careers

• Application with essay questions (word limits roughly 50–500 words depending on the prompt)

• Treat the short essays seriously — use specific stories about obstacles you've faced and your interest in science/medicine.
• Respect each prompt's word limit and answer the question directly.
• Admission is holistic, so convey motivation and fit rather than just credentials.
• Plan around the full session schedule before applying — attendance at all sessions is expected.
• Attend the virtual info session if one is offered.

Sessions run across several dates from November through February. Selection is holistic and prioritizes students who face roadblocks entering science or medicine. Dates vary by cycle (one recent cycle closed in late September). Contact: hprep@hms.harvard.edu.
