KP LAUNCH High School Program

Northern California students who want a real paycheck and a first professional job inside a large health system. This suits students curious about the business and operations side of health care, since the roles are office-based with little or no patient contact.

• Ages 16 to 19 by June 1 of the program year
• Current high school student or graduating senior
• Priority given to juniors and seniors
• Resides in a Northern California Kaiser Permanente service area
• Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States
• COVID-19 vaccination required, with medical and religious exemptions available
• Dependents of Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians are not eligible

• Seven weeks full time, roughly mid-June through the end of July
• $24 per hour for health care worker roles
• Experience in health care, business operations, IT, communications, finance, HR, or administrative services
• Weekly skills workshops
• Mentorship from Kaiser Permanente staff

• Online application submitted during the November to January window
• Proof of work eligibility
• Student work permit during hiring if you are returning to high school in the fall

• The deadline is a hard cutoff at noon Pacific in early January. Submit at least a few days early in case documents are missing.
• Start gathering work authorization documents in the fall. Missing paperwork stalls hiring after you are selected.
• If you are returning to high school, ask your counselor about a student work permit before you are offered a spot so it does not delay your start.
• Understand what the job actually is. These are administrative and support roles, so write about wanting to learn how a health system runs, not about wanting to observe surgeries.
• Full time means Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for seven weeks. Do not sign up for summer school on top of it.
